NEWSLETTER - March 2019
This year again, we would like to inform you about current developments in the field of corporate reporting. In 2018 we were part of the expert panel for the Integrated Reporting Critique Project of the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) for the second time. In 2019, we will expand the PETRANIX Academy's offering and launch new seminars in the field of sustainability.
With kind regards from

Dr Petra Nix & Team

Integrated Reporting Business Network Critique Project
As part of the Integrated Reporting Specialist Panel, we analyzed and evaluated the Integrated Reports of various international companies within the Integrated Reporting Business Network as part of the current Report Critique Project. The aim of the project is to evaluate the quality of integrated reports, identify strengths and potential for improvement, support the practical implementation of the framework and thus promote integrated reporting and thinking. It is evaluated to what extent the requirements of the Integrated Reporting Framework have been implemented and best practice examples or recommendations for action are derived for the respective companies. In addition to the Specialist Panel, an Investor Panel also evaluates the Integrated Reports from their perspective. The cumulative findings on the current status of Integrated Reporting will be published by ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants).
We are happy to share the main findings from our reviews with you in advance:
Strengths:
- The guiding principle of materiality is increasingly being taken into account in an explicit manner and explained in concrete terms.
- The narrative along the capitals is predominantly well implemented.
- Information on the strategy and the business model is presented clearly and comprehensibly.
- The connectivity between the topics has further improved.
We see room for improvement especially in the area of "risks and opportunities". It is understandable that companies are reluctant to report on negative aspects and results. However, this also offers opportunities to identify and address risks in good time within an approach of proactive risk management. Balanced reporting also promotes credibility and trust in the company. A further focus is on presenting information on the short, medium and long-term. Ideally, corresponding operational and strategic goals are also set to make progress measurable and comparable. At the same time, this also allows for taking into account the aforementioned aspect of balanced reporting.
The complete ACCA report on the project will be available soon. If you are interested, please contact us at mail@petranix.com. We will be happy to keep you up to date.

GRI Standard Certified Trainings
The GRI Standard Certified Trainings are a two-day intensive seminar in which we impart profound basic knowledge, discuss practical examples on the basis of selected case studies, and provide technical input for the practical implementation of the GRI Standards. No previous knowledge is required. If you would like to build up sound GRI knowledge with high transfer benefits, put your integrated annual report or sustainability report to the test, contact us and secure one of the limited places now.
This is an official GRI course conducted by us as a GRI Training Partner. Participants will receive an official course confirmation from GRI.
GRI Update Course
The aim of the update course is to convey the latest changes and developments in sustainability reporting in a compact form. In this seminar you can keep your knowledge up to date. In particular, we will discuss the updates to GRI 303: Water and Effluents 2018 and GRI 403: Occupational Health and Safety 2018. This course is intended as a supplement to the basic course and is particularly recommended for experienced GRI reporters.
GRI Workshop: Integrating the SDGs into your reporting process
The one-day SDG course provides information on the GRI Standards and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). You will get to know the SDGs and learn how they can be used in combination with the GRI Standards as part of an annual or sustainability report. Using a hands-on approach, you will learn how to integrate the SDGs into your reporting process to demonstrate your company's contribution to sustainable development. Case studies show how other companies have already started to integrate the SDGs into their reporting process.
This is an official GRI course conducted by us as a GRI Training Partner. Participants will receive an official course confirmation from GRI.
Organisational issues
Depending on the requirements of the participants, the courses can be conducted either in English or in German. The teaching material is in English.
